day 70 // nice // monaco // cannes // nice
We woke up and got ready just in time to make the hotel's continental breakfast. Then we grabbed whatever else we needed from the room and walked about 5 minutes from our hotel to the train station. First stop: Monaco. We walked around Monaco, admiring all the fancy shops and lavish yachts. We walked through the garden at the Monte Carlo and decided to get a coffee at the cafe right next to the Monte Carlo so that we could sit and people watch. We sat for a couple hours, watching those going in and out of the casino, trying to figure out who was the real deal and who was faking it. Everyone was dresses to the nines and driving Ferraris, Mazaratis, and Rolls Royce's. After awhile we noticed that it looked like it was going to rain so we made our way back to the train station just in time to see it start pouring. We ran (literally ran) because we almost missed the train, but we made it and were soon on our way to Cannes. It wasn't too long of a ride but it was long enough to experience an extremely crabby man chew out a cute little grandma then go into the bathroom with a random train drunkee and smoke a cigarette. It was quite entertaining. When we arrived in Cannes, we walked around a little but were on the hunt for food cause we were hungry. Everything was pretty pricey but we finally found one that wasn't too bad. So naturally, in Cannes, we went to an Irish Pub. I was loving it cause they just don't have stuff like that in Florence, but we were all laughing about the fact that we were in France and eating at an Irish Pub. Oh well. After we ate we went across the street to a patisserie and got ourselves some MACARONS. I love macarons so I was pretty stoked to have the real deal. Then we ran (literally ran again) to catch our train back to Nice. We ended up taking the wrong train (the TGV). It wasn't totally wrong it just didn't stop at our stop so we ended up a little ways away from our hotel, but it worked out because we took the tram home and got to see the rest of the town on the way. Before returning to the hotel we decided to check out the shopping center across the street which had a bunch of stores in it and a huge Walmart-type store. It was very American-esque which is just so different from what I'm used to in Italy. Then we went back to the hotel for the night to pack up and prepare for a long travel day tomorrow. Next stop: Paris!
