Spanish Easter

day 96  //  barcelona

Happy Easter from Barcelona! This morning we woke up a little early because we were going to Church! We grabbed Starbucks by our hostel before hailing a cab to take us to the church. When we got there we couldn't believe how pretty it was. Just an average European church, but so spectacular. They were finishing up with the previous service, so while we waited we walked around and appreciated this awesome Spanish Cathedral we were about to have Easter Mass in. Since we were early, we got really good seats and were in like the 4th row of pews. The whole Mass was in Spanish, obviously, but it was still so cool and interesting. Plus we had a lot to look at. After Mass they had us exit out a different way than we came in and on our way out there was this semi-outdoor part of the church where there was this pretty fountain with swans swimming in it. We learned that the swans have always been there and no one knows really how they got there. We thought that was pretty cool. We went back out to the front of the church so that we could take some pictures before getting a cab to take us to brunch. We went to this place called Gra Na Dos and had some pretty tasty eggs with asparagus over potatoes (apparently this is a specialty here in Spain). Then we walked in the direction of our hostel stopping to treat ourselves to some Easter chocolate at a cute little chocolate shop (we were our own Easter bunnies this year so we had to). We also stopped to see the Gaudi House, which was pretty cool. Then we returned to the hostel to change clothes and hang out for a little bit before hopping on a double-decker bus tour around the city! We took the full 2-hour loop around the city, seeing just about everything in the city. I'd name everything but instead here is the map route we took with all the stops on it. (We took the red line.)
After that we came back to the hostel to have dinner at the restaurant there (because it's cheap and we're cheap). Then we hopped back on the double-decker bus and hopped off at one of the stops so that we could watch the water/light show at the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. Holy cow was this show amazing. I only got a couple pictures because I video-recorded the whole show, but if you look it up on the internet you'll see what I'm talking about. It was seriously incredible. I didn't know water and light could do all that. Then we took a cab back home (we don't feel bad taking cabs here because they are super cheap) where we hung out before going to bed. I also packed up since I'm leaving bright and early tomorrow morning (insert sad face). They all get to stay another day, but I can't miss my class on Tuesday morning so I have to go back alone tomorrow morning!
